Hello my dear family, friends and followers,
after some days of silence I will tell and show you my trip to Bangkok to see Kathrin and spend some time in Thailands capital city.
Thursday directly after my shift I took a Tuktuk to Chiang Mai airport which is only a 15-minute-ride. The airport itself is quite small and the business is easy-going. I did not even show my passport to get on board and after a 40 minutes delay and a 70 minutes flight I arrived in Bangkok shortly after 12 at night. Kahtrin was already waiting to pick me up and together we took a cab to bring us to her apartment.
Her accommodation is situated in the heart of Bangkoks business district and her room is pretty simple, but nice and she has everything she needs for a fair price. After sleeping late next morning we packed our stuff and rushed the city center to get some breakfast. We ended up in a totally Thai bistro called " au bon pain" ;). After enjoying some food and iced coffee (which is like the national drink as it seems to me; you can get it everywhere and in hundreds of flavors) we made our way to one of Bangkoks most famous temples called wat (Thai for temple) Arun. The building and the surroundings are beautiful (pictures) and it is always very special to see how emotional and deeply believing Thai people pray. On our way there we coincidently passed another religious place which is not mentioned on any touristic map or guide, but it was nearly as stunning as wat Arun itself.
After this exhausting site-seeing tour we went back to Kathrins place to shower and change before we met with the our friends who are in Bangkok as well. Together we went to a street restaurant and I was delighted again by the wonderful Thai food which I am eating every day.
Some weeks ago when we arrived in Thailand I discovered a crazy cinema in Bangkoks biggest mall and I promised Kahtrin to take her there when we are in BKK together. So we walked to the mall all together and said good bye to Maxi, Nadine and Hendrik.
The cinema offered different categories of seats and packages, so to make it special and because it sounded great we took the most expensive ones for 700 Baht ( 17.50 € ) each. The advertisement stated that we would get a separated pair of connected seats which can be transformed to a bed and nice pillows and covers. Looking forward to a unique cinema experience we booked the tickets and entered the "first class cinema" area which was specially for the highest fare. The entrance itself was already stunning but then it really started:
Arriving in the " waiting lounge " our personal waiter arrived at our table to hand us the welcome cocktails and ask for our consumption wishes during the movie. After the welcome drink we got another iced coffee and enjoyed full access to the buffet consisting of hot and warm snacks and sweets. The personal guided us to our sofa where to buckets of sweet popcorn and chilled sprite were waiting already and we made ourselves comfortable. All the services and things I just mentioned where included in our booking (which we did not know) and I never rested in such a nice and cozy chair. We watched "love and other drugs" (not my idea) and the evening was just perfect.
On Saturday we slept long and had breakfast at Kathrin's daily street stands. The pancakes, waffles and the iced latte were gorgeous and did not even cost us 4€ in total. The rest of the day until late afternoon we spent on Bangkoks Chatutack weekend market, the tourist gadget whole sale of the city and the biggest market in town. From faked, shoes, shirts, sunglasses, watches, art and all kinds of food up to dogs, cats and weapon or faked money you can buy everything there and I bought some shirts and a nice leather bag for only 400 Baht (10 €). After showering and a little nap we met with our friends again and went out for a drink in the tourist streets and after that in the famous Singha Beer garden. We had a lot of fun but the mosquitoes attacked me and my girlfriend so hard, that we decided to go home early. On sunday we took it easy and enjoyed a big breakfast with sandwiches, waffles and croissants together with Maxi before meeting up with everybody at the pool of Maxis hotel. This place is so big that it is impossible to know every guests and so we stayed there for free the whole afternoon.Back at Kathrins flat it was time for me to collect my things and fly back "home". It was a wondeful weekend and surely not my last one in Bangkok. This is it for today because my sweetheart is on Skype and I do not want to miss her so good bye everybody and I will keep you posted.
Chris
